Towards sustainable construction

To implement a policy aimed at improving the environmental sustainability of buildings, it is essential to assess their impact both during the construction phase and whilst in use. It is the latter phase in particular that has a decisive influence, accounting for around 90 per cent of environmental impacts, which is why the main focus must be on reducing the energy consumption and CO₂ emissions of buildings throughout their service life.
The polyiso foam used in STIFERITE panels guarantees the best thermal insulation for a given thickness; its cellular structure enables excellent performance to be achieved with very low densities. Thermal efficiency, combined with lightness, makes it possible to minimise the volume and weight required in applications; an advantage that translates into a drastic reduction in all energy consumption associated with transport, installation and, at the end of the product's life, disposal or recycling (see the Manual for Correct THERMAL INSULATION).


Environmental impact analysis: LCA and EPD

STIFERITE is committed to a rigorous environmental policy based on scientific analysis and accurate, transparent communication with the market.
STIFERITE has carried out life cycle assessment (LCA) studies of its products based on international standards (ISO 14040 series) and, in 2007, drew up and registered the first EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) for rigid polyurethane foam panels, verified by an accredited body and registered with the international EPD System.
LCA studies are now available for the entire product range, and STIFERITE has chosen to adhere to the certification scheme for the preparation of individual Level III Environmental Product Declarations. The German institute IBU (Institut Bauen und Umwelt), which is particularly active in the building products sector, has been selected as the third-party body for verification and monitoring.

UNI EN ISO 14001

STIFERITE has obtained voluntary ISO 14001 certification for its Environmental Management System, which is designed to systematically monitor the environmental impacts of its activities and to pursue continuous improvement in its environmental performance.
