To heat and cool rooms we use a great deal of energy with high economic and environmental costs.
Really, much of the heat and cold produced by systems is needlessly lost through inefficient building structures.
With the Directive 2002/91/EC (EPBD), the European Union proposes to obtain a saving of about 22% of energy consumption by 2010 and the reduction of emissions amounting to about 100 million tonnes of CO2.
As well as system performances and inspections, the Directive establishes:
a common European method for calculating the energy yield of buildings
the application of minimum energy yield requirements of new and existing buildings, with a large surface area, subjected to restructuring
the issue of energy certificates for buildings.
In Italy, where the problem of energy inefficiency in buildings is particularly serious due to the failure to apply Law 10, the text of the European Directive has been assimilated with Law Decree n. 192 of 19 August 2005 which came into force on 8 October 2005.
Thanks to the new legislation, which contemplates performance limits, also Italian buildings will use adequate thicknesses of heat insulation.
On the site there is a utility for calculating on line the thickness of insulation necessary to respect the limits of Law Decree 192
