The winning design, produced by Studio aichner_seidl ARCHITEKTEN, is characterised by an outline that integrates optimally with the site available (lying partly on the plain and partly on a slope), both from the point of view of its layout and as regards the formal development of the building, which adopts solutions of particular transparency and lightness such as, for example, the coverings of horizontally laid strips of wood and the large glazed surfaces.
Particular attention was devoted to energy use in the building, in relation to the town-planning law in the province of Bolzano which makes energy certification obligatory for all new buildings. For the insulation of the roof, an insulating layer of 200 mm of Polyiso foam was installed, using a double layer of Stiferite panels 100 mm thick (which when coupled guarantee values of U=0.14 W/m2K and R=7.14 m2K/W). On the structure in the plain, above the vapour barrier, a first layer of Stiferite Class panels was laid, coated with saturated fibreglass, with on top – with offset joins – a layer of Stiferite Class B panels, coated – on the side in contact with the bituminous mantles – with a finish of saturated and bitumen-coated fibreglass, able to resist the hot laying of the waterproof layers; lastly the surface was waterproofed with a double layer of bituminous waterproof mantles.
